Outdoor lighting for terraces, pools and gardens
Good outdoor lighting extends the day, makes paths safe and shows off the garden. It works best when planned in layers.

Evenings are when many people enjoy their terraces and gardens most on the Costa Blanca. Outdoor lighting makes those hours possible, improves safety and gives the property atmosphere.
Think in layers
Combine functional light for paths, steps and entrances, ambient light for terraces and dining areas, and accent light for trees, walls and planting. Several low-level sources usually look better than one bright floodlight.
Paths and steps
Low bollards, recessed step lights and wall lights guide the way without glare. Steps and level changes should always be visible.
Trees, plants and facades
Uplighting trees and textured walls creates depth. Accent lights should be aimed carefully to avoid glare towards terraces and neighbours.
Pools
Underwater lights transform a pool at night. Fittings for use in water must be designed for continuous immersion. Read our guide to renovating an old swimming pool if your pool lighting is outdated.
Colour temperature
Warm white light, typically around 2700–3000 kelvin, gives a comfortable atmosphere outdoors. Colour-changing lights can be used as accents.
Fittings for the outdoors
Outdoor fittings must be protected against water and dust, with a suitable IP rating for their position, and made from materials that withstand sun and, near the coast, salt air.
Control
Timers, dusk sensors, zones and app control make the lighting easy to use and let you switch it on remotely, which also helps a holiday home look lived in.
Consider neighbours and the night sky
Directing light downwards and only where it is needed reduces light pollution and keeps good relations with neighbours.
Plan your lighting
Lighting is easiest to install together with the terrace, pool or garden. See our outdoor lighting service, or find lighting projects in Roda Golf, Las Colinas Golf and Cabo Roig.
Your questions.
What colour of light is best for a garden?
Warm white light, typically around 2700–3000 kelvin, gives a comfortable outdoor atmosphere.
Do outdoor lights need special fittings?
Yes. They need an IP rating suited to their position and materials that withstand sun and, near the sea, salt air. Pool lights must be made for continuous immersion.
Can outdoor lighting be controlled remotely?
Yes. Timers, dusk sensors and app control let you manage zones and switch lights on remotely.
